Goldenrod is a keystone pollinator plant — meaning more wildlife depends on it than almost any other native. Goldenrod pollen is heavy and sticky; it is not airborne. The real allergy culprit is ragweed, which blooms at the same time.
Showy Goldenrod (Solidago speciosa) and Stiff Goldenrod (S. rigida) are well-behaved garden choices that won't run aggressively like Canada Goldenrod.
A late-September goldenrod patch will be alive with sound — bees, wasps, beetles, and butterflies all working the same flowers.
